Last week, FareShare North East were honoured to attend the Volun-cheers Awards hosted by Teesside University, where our Middlesbrough team received a Special Recognition Award for their volunteering programme.

We are proud to be recognised for going “above and beyond in our commitment to supporting others and creating a lasting impact within the community.” Every day, our team of dedicated volunteers work to ensure that good quality, nutritious food reaches people who need it most, supporting organisations and helping to strengthen communities across the North East.

We strive to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where volunteers feel valued, supported, and empowered. Whether someone is gaining experience, building confidence, or simply looking to give back, we are proud to offer a space where everyone can feel part of something bigger.

Our partnership with Teesside University has been a key part of this. Through close collaboration, we have developed accessible and meaningful volunteering opportunities for students, ensuring they can contribute in ways that suit their skills, interests, and circumstances. We are especially proud of the supportive environment we have fostered, offering encouragement and understanding, particularly for those navigating challenging or uncertain times.

The recognition through this award is also a reflection of our incredible volunteers who give their time and energy to support our work. Their commitment helps us go beyond simply providing opportunities. Together, we create a sense of belonging, purpose, and community for everyone involved.

A special congratulations to three of our incredible student volunteers, Friday, Kalinda and Patrick, who each received Certificates of Achievement in recognition of their dedication. Thank you for everything you do!

We are honoured to receive this award and would like to thank Teesside University for recognising our work, as well as all our volunteers, partners, and community organisations who make it possible.

Job Vacancy: Volunteer Engagement Officer

Full time | Permanent | £28,000

Westerhope, Newcastle, with travel throughout the North East required

FareShare North East is looking for a friendly, organised, and people‑focused Volunteer Engagement Officer to join our Newcastle team. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and in this role you’ll play a key part in recruiting, training, and supporting the incredible individuals who help us redistribute surplus food across the region.

You’ll also support people on employability placements, build partnerships with community organisations, and represent FSNE at local events to grow our volunteer network. You will help create a welcoming, inclusive environment in our busy warehouse, where no two days are the same. You might be hosting a volunteer open day, coaching someone into employment, or jumping on a van run.

Working closely with the Volunteering & Employability Manager, you’ll help deliver a skills‑building programme designed to boost confidence and improve employment opportunities. You’ll also collaborate with our Operations Team to ensure volunteers feel supported and are able to sort and move food safely and efficiently.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys being part of a supportive, hands-on team and is confident working with people who are facing barriers to employment. Strong communication skills, empathy, and a passion for helping people thrive will make you a great fit for this role.

If you want to make a real impact in a growing regional charity and help strengthen our volunteer community across the North East, we’d love to hear from you.

Part time (20 hours per week) | Permanent | £26,500 (pro rata)

Westerhope, Newcastle

FareShare North East is seeking a Stock Coordinator to join its busy Newcastle based team. We are looking for someone approachable, organised and proactive to ensure good food reaches charities and community groups across the region.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of stock control – from booking food in and managing inventory, to allocating surplus food fairly and efficiently to community organisations. The postholder will also work closely with FareShare UK’s Supply Chain & Logistics team to make sure the North East receives the right food at the right time.

This is a hands-on, operational position where no two days will be the same. The role will support warehouse operations, including driving delivery vans and operating forklifts – a full UK driving license is essential and a forklift license is an advantage (training will be provided). Strong IT skills are required, with experience using Warehouse Management Systems or tools such as Power BI are welcomed.

The postholder will work closely with the Operations Team, reporting to the Operations Manager.

You will be someone who enjoys playing a major part of a skilled, supportive team within a values-led organisation. This is the sort of role where you can get involved in all aspects of what we do. You’ll be contributing to a culture of togetherness, inclusivity, respect and passion in a vision that no good food goes to waste in the North East of England, maximising the social value of surplus food through the groups the organisation supports.
