Good Food to Good Causes

FareShare North East is the largest food redistribution charity in the North East. We take good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry and divert it to over 200 charities and community groups, reaching thousands of people each week. By making good use of a huge amount of food every year, we save it from being thrown away and help to combat climate emissions.

Supporting Communities Throughout the North East

From corporate volunteer days to delivering an employability and training programme to help people get into work, engaging the community is key to what we do.

The Groups We Serve

FareShare North East redistribute food which is nutritious and good to eat food. We reach charities and community groups across the region, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters and community cafes. Our members access surplus food to support their beneficiaries, such as individuals and families who are facing economic hardship. By accessing our surplus food, they are able to save thousands of pounds each year which is often reinvested into other services that the organisation offers. Our surplus food helps our members to continue to make the vital and tangible contribution to the communities they are committed to serving.

1 in 4 children are living in food poverty in the North East

Areas of the North East are located in the top 30% for income deprivation in the UK as a result of the region’s continuing economic difficulties, recent reductions in funding for public services and changes to the benefits system. It is forecasted that the North East is likely to face an increasing problem with food poverty over the coming years making FareShare North Easts’ mission to redistribute surplus food to organisations offering vital food services to the households living in food insecurity…more prevalent than ever.

Hear from the groups we support

We at Barnard Grove School feel very lucky to be a part of something so positive at this very difficult time and to see the impact on those who need it most.

With the food provided by FareShare North East, we have been able to support refugee families and children in the community with door to door distribution of food and essential supplies. This has helped to mitigate the harsh impact of the COVID-19 and the stay at home measures.

Barnard Grove School Middlesbrough

We love FareShare North East. There is a real “buzz” when the FareShare delivery is received, with everyone excited to see what is in the boxes. This is a very important way [The Eco Shop] to continue to support people and maintain connection with them during this crisis and profits from the shop through the year mean this service can be provided to families for free.

Park End Primary

Thanks to FareShare North East I am still able to get vital food parcels out to our nursery families every Thursday.

Sunshine Day Nursery

It’s brilliant what FareShare gives us… Before FareShare, our foodbank relied mostly on donations from the community and whilst it’s brilliant to have their support, with FareShare we’re able to provide a wider range of items.

Hebburn Helps

People here are very proud. By the time people ask us for help, they need it immediately, as they will have very little. The food from FareShare North East is allowing us to produce even more parcels

Engage Ltd

The support we get from FareShare North East is integral to the work we do, as are the donations and pledges we receive.
