FareShare North East is the largest food redistribution charity in the North East. We take good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry and divert it to 285 charities and community groups, reaching more than 34,200 vulnerable people each week. We aim to fight hunger and tackle food waste one step at a time, with the help of our volunteers and supporters.

FareShare North East provides charities and community groups with food that takes up over 50% of their food resources. By accessing our surplus food, they are able to save thousands of pounds each year which are often reinvested into other services that the organisation offers. Food provided by FareShare North East enables organisations to continue to make the vital and tangible contribution to the communities they are committed to serving.

Areas of the North East are located in the top 30% for income deprivation in the UK as a result of the region’s continuing economic difficulties, recent reductions in funding for public services and changes to the benefits system. It is forecasted that the North East is likely to face an increasing problem with food poverty over the coming years making FareShare North Easts’ mission to redistribute surplus food to organisations offering vital food services to the households living in food insecurity…more prevalent than ever.
We at Barnard Grove School feel very lucky to be a part of something so positive at this very difficult time and to see the impact on those who need it most.
With the food provided by FareShare North East, we have been able to support refugee families and children in the community with door to door distribution of food and essential supplies. This has helped to mitigate the harsh impact of the COVID-19 and the stay at home measures.

We love FareShare North East. There is a real “buzz” when the FareShare delivery is received, with everyone excited to see what is in the boxes. This is a very important way [The Eco Shop] to continue to support people and maintain connection with them during this crisis and profits from the shop through the year mean this service can be provided to families for free.
Park End Primary
Thanks to FareShare North East I am still able to get vital food parcels out to our nursery families every Thursday.
Sunshine Day Nursery
It’s brilliant what FareShare gives us… Before FareShare, our foodbank relied mostly on donations from the community and whilst it’s brilliant to have their support, with FareShare we’re able to provide a wider range of items.
Hebburn Helps
People here are very proud. By the time people ask us for help, they need it immediately, as they will have very little. The food from FareShare North East is allowing us to produce even more parcels
