Community Spotlight: Heart on the Terrace
Recently, we had the privilege of visiting Heart on the Terrace in Murton, a vibrant and welcoming community hub that truly lives up to...

On Sunday 17th May 2026, FareShare North East volunteers and staff took part in the Tees Heritage Walk, organised by Middlesbrough Erimus Rotary Club.
Our team completed the 11 mile route along the banks of the River Tees, stretching from Middlesbrough College to Stockton’s Millennium Bridge and back. The walk gave participants the opportunity to explore the region’s rich industrial heritage while supporting a FareShare North East.
Every mile walked supported our mission to rescue surplus food and get it to the community groups helping those who need it most.

By taking part, our team has helped to raise vital funds that enable us to continue redistributing surplus food across Middlesbrough and the wider North East – turning potential waste into valuable support for local charities and community groups.
We are delighted to share that we are now over halfway to reaching fundraising target, with donations still coming in. Every contribution helps us rescue more good food.

The Tees Heritage Walk is more than just a fundraising event, it’s a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose. Whether you’re a keen walker, a swimming enthusiast, or passionate about reducing food waste, there’s a place for you in our community.
Interested in getting involved? Take a look at our upcoming events or consider organising your own fundraising initiative. With a wealth of resources and ongoing support, our team will be there to help you every step of the way.
Last week, FareShare North East were honoured to attend the Volun-cheers Awards hosted by Teesside University, where our Middlesbrough team received a Special Recognition Award for their volunteering programme.
We are proud to be recognised for going “above and beyond in our commitment to supporting others and creating a lasting impact within the community.” Every day, our team of dedicated volunteers work to ensure that good quality, nutritious food reaches people who need it most, supporting organisations and helping to strengthen communities across the North East.

We strive to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where volunteers feel valued, supported, and empowered. Whether someone is gaining experience, building confidence, or simply looking to give back, we are proud to offer a space where everyone can feel part of something bigger.

Our partnership with Teesside University has been a key part of this. Through close collaboration, we have developed accessible and meaningful volunteering opportunities for students, ensuring they can contribute in ways that suit their skills, interests, and circumstances. We are especially proud of the supportive environment we have fostered, offering encouragement and understanding, particularly for those navigating challenging or uncertain times.
The recognition through this award is also a reflection of our incredible volunteers who give their time and energy to support our work. Their commitment helps us go beyond simply providing opportunities. Together, we create a sense of belonging, purpose, and community for everyone involved.
A special congratulations to three of our incredible student volunteers, Friday, Kalinda and Patrick, who each received Certificates of Achievement in recognition of their dedication. Thank you for everything you do!

We are honoured to receive this award and would like to thank Teesside University for recognising our work, as well as all our volunteers, partners, and community organisations who make it possible.

We’re looking for a few friendly volunteer drivers and driver’s mates to help keep good food moving from our Newcastle and Middlesbrough warehouses to community organisations across the region.
This role is flexible and designed to fit around your week. Most shifts are 2–3 hours, vans are provided, and you’ll be fully supported by our warehouse team. You don’t need to commit every week – even one regular shift makes a real difference.
Volunteering as a driver is a practical way to:
If you’ve got a driving licence (or you’re happy to support as a driver’s mate) and a bit of time to spare, we’d love to hear from you. Come in for a cuppa and a chat, then a ride-along in a van to see what we’re about.
Interested? Get in touch at [email protected] for a chat or to come along for a no-obligation visit.
