Take the plunge for good food – Great North Swim 2026

Join Team FareShare North East at the Coventry Building Society Great North Swim and take on the 1 mile open water challenge this summer.

12- 14 June 2026 Lake Windermere, Lake District

The 1 Mile distance is suitable for swimmers of all abilities. You will swim the equivalent of 64 lengths of a 25m pool and the average time to complete this distance is 40 minutes. Choose a leisurely breaststroke while taking in the scenery or kick into crawl for a faster time. You must be 16 years or above to enter this event.

Why swim for us?

Every year, thousands of tonnes of good food go to waste – food that could be enjoyed by people and communities across the North East.

By swimming with us, you’ll help:

  • Save good food from going to waste
  • Support charities and community groups across the region
  • Reduce the environmental impact of food waste

Your strokes won’t just get you to the shore – they’ll help keep good food moving where it’s needed most.

What you’ll get

  • A guaranteed place in the 1 mile Great North Swim
  • An optional behind-the-scenes depot visit to see how surplus food is sorted and shared across the region
  • post-race meet-up with Team FareShare, including a group photo to celebrate your achievement
  • A “fuelled by FareShare” food moment after the race – a chance to refuel and experience the kind of good food you’re helping save and share
  • Support from our team to help you reach your fundraising target

What we ask from you

  • A registration fee of £20
  • A commitment to raise £350

Every pound raised helps us rescue more good food and get it to where it’s needed most.
